Entering an addiction treatment program may seem like a daunting task, especially if you aren’t sure what to expect. According to recent studies, the most successful addiction treatment services are those that teach coping skills, instill good values and help those struggling with addiction change the way they interact with their environments and those around them.

Addiction Treatment for Professionals

Professionals often have added stressors when trying to overcome alcohol and drug addiction. Executives, including business owners, executives and business owners, tend to hold places of power where many others look up to them.

An outpatient treatment program specifically for professionals should address these added responsibilities, take into account personal circumstances and be shared with other like-minded people through social support.

Addiction Treatment for First Responders and Veterans

First responders and veterans are exposed to the risk of injury, chronic pain, combat and other extreme conditions. This puts these individuals at a greater risk for mental health disorders and substance abuse and addiction.

With a growing number of first responders and veterans in New Jersey reporting drug and alcohol addiction, it’s important to provide specialized treatment programs.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

An intensive outpatient program (IOP) in New Jersey is designed for individuals with strong support systems. An intensive outpatient program works around the addicted person’s personal schedule and makes it possible for them to continue working, going to school or taking part in extracurricular activities such as sports while still getting the treatment needed. This type of outpatient rehab treatment is one step down from a traditional PHP due to its flexibility. Clients can meet during the day or at night as their schedule allows.

An IOP usually involves around 12 hours a week of treatment that includes counseling services, family counseling, support groups and other outpatient treatments, but each program is tailored to address specific needs. Courses are provided to address the issues that cause the addiction. Some of these include trauma education, vocational skills, emotional regulation, relapse prevention and self-discovery. Most programs last around 90 days and can include frequent drug testing to ensure the individual is sticking to the program.

A typical day in an IOP consists of meeting with support staff, therapists and peers. During addiction treatment, the clients learn the necessary skills to obtain or keep a job, find the meaning of life through personal discovery, learn how to socialize and connect with others going through similar recovery, address the causes of the addiction and learn how to build and maintain healthy relationships. This outpatient addiction treatment also includes help on repairing relationships that might have been destroyed or damaged during the addiction process.

General Outpatient Program (GOP)

A general outpatient program (GOP) is similar to an IOP, but it meets less frequently and is for patients who have just enough support at home to help maintain their sobriety. Like an IOP, a GOP includes individual therapy sessions, family and couples therapy sessions and group counseling for drug and alcohol addiction. The program works on recognizing things that trigger the addiction, methods to help stop the cravings and prevent relapses and steps on managing recovery.

A GOP meets around one to three times per week for around 45 minutes to an hour or a total of one to three hours per week, and it’s usually more affordable than an IOP. A GHP is one of the final steps in outpatient treatment and is often referred to as follow-up care or aftercare.
