It’s important to realize that an unhealthy exercise addiction can occur, so take care to balance physical fitness and activity with the needs of your body and life.
- Socializing. Seeing friends and family who don’t use drugs or alcohol can be a good way to surround yourself with positive influences. Getting out and about stops feelings of isolation, which can lead to depression and trigger potential substance abuse again.
- Cleaning. Cleaning is a great way to keep moving and focus on a single, easy-to-complete task for an immediate sense of achievement. If cravings hit or life seems out of control, look around the home or office for a job that can be done right at the moment.
- Spending time outdoors. Whether you spend time outdoors participating in sports like bike riding and hiking or you just want to take a walk in the park, it’s all a great way to get away from the pressures of everyday life. Greenbranch Recovery’s Wellness Wednesday Program
At Greenbranch Recovery, we feel so strongly about the positive impact of healthy activities that we started Wellness Wednesday. This program takes place each Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. as part of our rehab services. It focuses on a person’s emotional and physical well-being, and we offer the chance for individuals to learn about and experience some of the positive activities discussed above.
Some of the offerings included in Wellness Wednesday include:
- 30-minute chair massages from massage therapist Valerie Stone
- A spirituality group facilitated by Marwah Bhatti, BA
- Guided visualization meditation facilitated by Nate Nagelblatt, LSW
- Yoga sessions led by Anthony Damiani
- Individual counseling with Rick Gallagher, LPC
